1. Local and International Work Camps
PIVS organizes Local and International Work camps in various parts of Kenya where Volunteers, mostly from different countries, come together and work on a common project towards a common objective for the benefit of local population. In this setting, volunteers are able to face, experience and deal with each other differences which will eventually end up in understanding friendship and peaceful co-existence between people of different nationality, races and colour.
Some of the projects undertaken during work camps are:
• Construction of social amenities for the Community.
• Agriculture enhancement programs.
• Rehabilitation of rundown community facilities.
• Community services in Children orphanage or homes for the Aged.
• Use of volunteer skills i.e. Teaching, Medicine, Engineering,
Agriculture etc. to serve in the community.
• Renovations of community facilities.
Participants gain a deeper understanding of the community with which they are involved in by working hand in hand with the local community. Most of the projects require unskilled labour though PIVS encourages the volunteers to provide their services in the area of their expertise training.
A work camp takes a period of 2 to 3 weeks depending on the nature of the project. Our Camps accommodate 5 -10 volunteers with the number of international volunteers being half of the total volunteers.
Our International Work Camps are held during the months of February,March, April,May, June, July, August,September, October, November and December.
Local Work Camps are held in the month of April, August and December this is only for Primary and High School students. Local Camps takes a period of 4 days.
This program is prepared and planned together with the host community
or institution, local administration, government, CBO's and NGO's and
CSOs in marginalized areas.
Activities range from water-tank construction, construction of schools,
hospitals, farming,environment issues,harvesting among others.
We also hold workshops, cultural festival, outings/visits entertainment and experiencing the rural setup or way of life.
This project helps both the local and the international participants to get exposed to development issues, acquire a wide perception of world issues and also develop leadership acumen and Inter-cultural exchange between people of different political, social and economic background.
The International work camp duration is 14 - 21 days.
Applications should be received five weeks in advance and we encourage
volunteers to come two days earlier to familiarize themselves with Nairobi
city.
2. Mid and Long Term Volunteering
PIVS also organizes mid and long-term project attachment, which takes a minimum of 1 to 6 months. This is mainly for volunteers who seek to sharpen their skills or do research while at the same time helping local communities in the area of their training/interests. This is equivalent to year out programs. This program is appropriate for students who have just completed/graduated in their A-level studies or undergraduates. We encourage students to participate in this program as it can boost their resume, especially for students who want to gain a deeper understanding of African Culture, History, Art and practical experiences working with local communities.
This is done upon request from the volunteers and
PIVS Partners. Some of the areas/fields of internship PIVS organizes
are:
• Social Work
• Health Services
• Youth Development
• Education and Training
• Research
• Environment and Wildlife Conservation
• Human Rights Issues
• Agricultural Development and Fair Trade
• Pamoja Office – Publicity and Fundraising
This program is carried out in collaboration with:
• Orphanage/Home (Aged, Children and Disabled)
• Hospitals (Government and Private)
• Schools (Government and Private)
• Non Governmental Organization and Civil Societies Organizations
Education and Training – Teaching in Primary and Secondary /
High School Will be done in the following months January – March,
May – July and September – November.

Volunteer(s) who participate in this program is fully integrated in
our culture, political, social and economic landscape, at the same time
the volunteer learns Kiswahili language and he/she is able to broaden
his/her perception about issues affecting Youth and Women.
3. HomeStay Program
African set up family. The volunteer is able to learn and adapt to African way of life and
by staying with a local family and participating in the day to day chores or activities.
This is usually organized depending on the volunteer choice of interest based on the
family size, age of family members, locality of the family either in urban or rural town,
how long the volunteer intends to stay with the family and so on.
Upon the request of the potential/prospective volunteer the details of the family will be
given to her/him before she begins the program.
This will give the volunteer a first hand opportunity to explore the life, history language,
culture and political, economic and socio system of the people one is living amongst.
The minimum duration is 1 month and maximum duration is 6 months. Person(s)
interested should email and arrangements are done in advance before the prospective
person begins his/her program.
4. Internship
In this program PIVS offers a unique opportunity to persons/students who seek to
sharpen their skills or broaden their knowledge or learn practically or research while at
the same time helping local community in the area of their training and gaining
invaluable experience.
The minimum duration is 2 months and maximum duration is 6 months. The program is
designed to give the person/student a comprehensive field experience in their area of
expertise or training.
We only have internship program in the following areas Health services, Legal and
Human rights.
Pre med and medical students
Legal students
Persons interest in human rights issues
Students/persons interested should email and arrangements are done in advance before
the prospective person begins his/her program.
This is designed for those participants – volunteers who are interested in Kenyan history and culture, adventure, wildlife, safari visiting National Parks and Reserves etc. and is arranged upon prior request by the volunteer – participant, or any interested individual or groups of persons/students
PIVS in collaboration with Prime Time organizes educational tours and
travels. Any interested individual or parties can do this program any
time upon request.
For Local and International volunteers, this program is undertaken before
or after the volunteer finishes his/her project.
We have a 1 – day program for volunteer(s) interested in learning the culture, Art and History of Kenya. This is done before the Volunteer begins his/her program or after his/her program. This depends if the volunteer arrives 2 or more days prior to the program or he/she has some extra days after the completion of his/her program.
Note: This program will not be done when the volunteer is undertaking her/his respective program.
We have a 2 Nights program for Safari either at Maasai Mara National Reserve and Serengeti National Park.
Adventure/Expedition program is a separate program from the Safari and
1 educational tour of Nairobi city, this is open to any person with
an adventurous spirit and it can be undertaken anytime. Minimum of 3
persons to participate in this program.
